Our first invitation to the Ashford MRC Exhibition held in the Stour Centre, Ashford. Ashford town is undergoing
major roadworks round the town and on the M20 exit 10 into Ashford and it was a very wet weekend with the result that numbers attending over
the weekend were down on previous years.
We had been allocated a spacious area on the left hand wall of the hall with adequate room for the TraimSim
stand as well as the DCC Workshop.
Cab-It and I did the initial setup on the Friday evening and finished off on the Saturday morning with Matts help. Atomicdanny arrived shortly after we did
and ably assisted us with demonstrating throughout the weekend. LAD491 also joined us on Sunday. A number of UKTS members also dropped by over the
weekend to chat. The DCC Workshop attracted a large number of visitors dicussing DCC and some of the problems being experienced.
The standard of layouts at this exhibition was very high. Bough Beech (Peter Clarks layout) in 7mm we have seen before on a number of occasions,
including the time user connex hijacked the layout at Horsham. Bough Beech is now a DCC operated layout (upgraded earlier this year). Other layouts
ranged from 'N' gauge to 'O' gauge.
Numerous traders and societies also in attendance provided plenty of opportunity for modellers to purchase items needed for the
model railway at home. One layout operator was selling his entire "OO" gauge collection as he is upscaling to "O" gauge. Some
nice bargains to be had if he was selling something you were looking for.
Our thanks to the Ashford Model Railway Club for the invitation, the refreshments and the location.
Our thanks to all those that gave of their time to help us demonstrating, to those who dropped by for a chat
and to the members of the public who visited the exhibition over the weekend.
