The last time that UKTrainSimLive will be located in the Drama Room, or Black Hole as it is known locally, at the Colchester Institute for
the Colchester and District Model Railway Club Exhibition. This was their 40th exhibition and the last one at the Colchester Institute for
at least the next three years while rebuilding work is carried out. With Doug, Laurie, Danny, Mike and Kieran arriving shortly after us,
we were quickly unloaded, set up and running.
We were joined and ably assisted over the weekend by Doug Kightley, LAD491 (Laurie), Atomicdanny, Dinmore (Mike), KieranHardy,
and Riche. Thanks for all your help demonstrating and with the loading and unloading. One of our more senior members also visited us from Dudley
in the West Midlands whilst holidaying in Burnham on Crouch.
With the Making Tracks: Great Eastern (The local line) making a regular showing throughout the weekend, locals from the area of the line expressed considerable
interest in the line and regularly a voice or three were heard to call out the station names as they were passed or stopped at.
EA Rail Simulator was also shown over the weekend without too many mishaps. (Laurie was seen to smile ONCE whilst driving EARS - Street Cred gone forever).
A very interesting, if not unusual, collection of layouts at the exhibition with a 50 / 50 split between British and NON British layouts. Ranging from
an American "UP" based layout in 'Z' gauge up to "O" gauge. Insufficient room meant that the "G" gauge layout usually collecting for a local
hospice was unable to attend. As always first class trade support despite a couple of regulars not present having retired earlier this year.
Also missing was the Model Electronic Railway Group (MERG).
We would like to express our thanks to Paul Evans (Exhibition Manager) and the Colchester and District MRC members for the invitation, the
refreshments and the warm welcome.
Thanks to all the UKTS members who came along to demonstrate, chat etc and for helping load the car at the end, thanks.
Thanks also to Danny for allowing us to use some of his photos from the exhibition.
Next year sees a change of venue to the Marks Tey Sports Hall on SUNDAY 2nd November 2008. Whether there will be room for us remains to be seen.
We WILL be there if there is room and we are invited.
