Exhibition Report

Hatfield 3rd May 2003

We were asked to attend this exhibition back at the Beaconsfield CMRA Workshop last July. It was an early start for this exhibition as we were to pick up Deltic9000 at Stevenage Station on our way to Hatfield. With road works to be avoided we finally arrived at Hatfield just before 8.30am - a trifle later than normal.
We found our slot in the corner of the main hall in a corner partially behind the entrance door. With a little assistance from our neighbouring stall we managed to move two feet sideways to avoid the corner and then set up the stand in the now traditional manner. Half an hour later we were up and running.

Another bemused visitor as Leviathan1949 runs an activity. Thirsty work this TrainSim, chairs for the vertically challenged. Connex attempts to instruct Cab-It on the finer points of driving a Growler. More interested visitors to the stand.

Not long after opening, ThinLizzy, Connex and aetcMarcus arrived to help with the stand. Thanks for the help guys. Later in the day Neutronic arrived with Cameron and stayed with us for couple hours before returning home. The afternoon saw Connex and Leviathan1949 hijack the Hemel Hempstead layout (Courtesy of Tim, UKTrainSim user Mirrlees) for an hour while Deltic9000, ThinLizzy and aetcMarcus ran the stand for us.

It was a well attended exhibition with plenty of variety for the visitors including one trader who specialised in 'G' Guage for the garden. Cab-It proceeded to spend her pennies on that stand buying a bogie open truck for her garden layout.

Visitors to our stand were many and varied, children as always drawn by the sheer size of the display screens and the associated sounds (they all seem to bring chairs or stools with them to get a better look); mums and dads to see what its all about.

Routes on display included Ruabon, MidEast, Woodhead, S&C 1930, Paddington - Penzance. All were well received and numerous visitors with TrainSim went away happily with the free CD that they had chosen.

I should also mention that for anybody who wanted scale drawings, the gent running the stall next to us had literally hundreds of scale drawing with him for sale. Something you don't often see at exhibitions these days.

This was only a one day exhibition and we all had a great time enjoying ourselves. Thanks again for the help we received from ThinLizzy, Connex, aetcMarcus and Deltic9000. After packing up and loading the car we dropped Deltic9000 back at Stevenage and headed for home.

Our thanks to the organisers for the invitation, hope to see you all again next year.

One last exhibition before we take a summer break, Leytonstone, London on 31st May, hope to see you there.
