Exhibition Report

Ipswich Transport Museum
Transport In Miniature
27 March 2004

A very different venue from our usual at Model Railway Exhibitions. This time at a FULL SIZE, 12 inch to the foot transport museum. The Ipswich Transport Museum to be exact in Cobham Road, Ipswich which houses a vast number of transport related vehicles from mowers to trolleybuses. Well worth a visit of you are in the area. Visit the Website.

Hemmed in between a furniture van and a milk float (cosy). Our celebrity signs his autograph. Then with a smile and a flourish presents to a visitor. Deltic9000, Aetcmarcus and Thinlizzy.

It was an unfortunately cold day from the outset and it didn't warm up at all. Sitting at our PC's in heavy jackets using the little heat from the two shuttles and projectors to provide what warmth there was.
We were located between a furniture van and a milk float with barely enough room to squeeze a table into, but we managed and quickly had our two shuttles up and running.

A G gauge layout that operated radio controlled live steam later in the day. Small tram layout. End to end tram layout. Hornby Dublo 3 rail.

We were joined by Jimbinn, Deltic9000, Aetcmarcus and Thinlizzy as demonstrators and we had a visit from Colin Tucker (batroost) with the latest version of the Ffestiniog Railway that he is creating. Thanks for helping out guys and thanks for the updated Ffestiniog Colin.

For lovers of the AEC Regent V. One of the many vehicles still being renovated. Ipswich Airport fire trucks. This museum used to be the Ipswich Trolleybus depot and this photo shows just some of the electrical switchgear used.

Routes on display included Blackpool Tramway, Cannock Chase, MidEast, Ffestiniog and Talyllyn. With only a very limited opening hours of 11.00am til 4.00pm there weren't too many visitors, but those that did venture to the museum were impressed with the addon routes and rolling stock that we were showing. Leaflets and CD's were distributed in the time honoured tradition.

Ground equipment - Ground Lever Frame and Ground signal. Some good suspension on this old covered buggy. Horse Drawn Grocery Delivery. Groceries to your doorstep.

Aetcmarcus (I'm a celebrity, get me outta here) was asked for his autograph, which he duly provided on a Nene Valley Railway leaflet. See the pictures in the top row. .

Not a sign you see much of these days. Ford Thames Pickup. One for those that live on the East Sussex coast, Southdown and East Kent vehicles. Boats.

One yer bike, Son. But which one Dad? A typical cycle repair shop of the 50's. One of the organisers (Brian Dyes in the light grey jacket) has a go at the Hornby Dublo 3 rail layout. Original Signal Box diagram from Felixstowe box.

Our thanks to the organisers, Brian Dyes and John Rawling for the invitation and refreshments, let's hope your next open day is a trifle warmer. .
