Exhibition Report

Wigan 13/14 December 2003

Our visit to Wigan was our last exhibition of the year. It turned out to be our worst. Both Matt and I appeared to have contracted the flu simultaneously so sneezing noses and running eyes were the order of the day. Our location was in the pagoda style entrance of Robin Park Sports Centre with more overhead light through the glass roof than enough. When the sun shone, it shone straight through the glass onto the screens and wiped them out and into our eyes making it difficult to see our flat panel screens. Despite the efforts of the staff at the Robin Park Sports Centre who wanted to put up some sort of screen to block the sun out, the management of the centre would not allow the screening to be put up.

Worst was to come on the Sunday when the sun came out earlier from behind the clouds and again wiped out the screens. By 2 o'clock on the Sunday afternoon with the sun full on the screens and in our eyes and our bout of flu we decided enough was enough and we packed up and headed for home.

Saturday morning shortly after 10.00am and Terry Cunliffe (Mr NWE) arrives. Very quiet here isn't it says Terry. Ian (I hate this wee keyboard) Macmillan joins the crew. Terry Cunliffe (Mr NWE) meets Gordon McKenzie (Mr Bala Hub).

It was a pleasure to see Terry Cunliffe (North West England) who had brought along a V2 beta of his route and to see Gordon McKenzie (Barmouth Bala Hub) who had brought along his latest Beta. We look forward to trying these over Christmas. Also great to see Ian Macmillan and EddieF again who provided some additional manpower to help run the stand. Thanks guys.

The main problem with our location was that the Model Railway Exhibition was some 80 yards further into the Robin Park Sports Centre and we were continously asked where the exhibition was or could they buy tickets from us. Ugh!! The exhibition itself was very good with a good variety of layouts, trade stands and demonstrations. Just a pity we weren't a part of it. Not much left to say, enjoy the pictures.

A SMALL crowd gathers :). Terry and Gordon discussing Route building. The Saturday evening Christmas dinner gathering. But who stole the Roast Potatoes. The hotel Christmas tree.

Teigh House Sidings. Roarkes Landing. Tebay. Church Eaton.

Blue overhead lighting on a superb snow scene layout. Blakecaster. Beckley Tramway. Modelling on a grand scale.
